Review: Salvation Army by Harrison Whitford

Singer-songwriter, Harrison Whitford, is back with his latest indie-rock single, ‘Salvation Army’. The stripped song explores a side of emotions that are often avoided or even suppressed, but is done in a rather beautiful way.

“You had a dream that you pulled the trigger

And watched the hammer come down

We had a good run floating down the river

Until the river ran out”

Even though the lyrics are slightly dark, the music along with Harrison’s voice are both so light and soft that it doesn’t feel dark because it just sounds beautiful. In a way it is very calming and comforting, especially with the repetition of, “Nothing can hurt us now”. From what Harrison has released thus far in his career, this is a common theme for almost all of his songs.

What I love most about Harrison is the emotion in his voice. From his debut album, “Afraid of Everything”, to this new release, every single word in every one of his songs is jammed packed with emotion and as the listener you not only hear that but you feel those emotions as well. His music is raw, authentic, and real.

Hopefully this single will lead into something larger like a potential album. Whatever is next though, I cannot wait for it and I know it will be something great!
