For many of us, music makes up almost every fiber of our being. It’s how we spend our time, how we share our emotions, how we connect, and sometimes how we make a living. As time goes on, the way we experience music changes regardless of whether we’re actively aware or not. How we discover music can be part of a well-thought out marketing plan or it can be a beautiful journey of self discovery.
Author Carmela Carr takes us through her experiences on the impact technology, music, and trends had on her, how these things helped to find herself, and how they can help you in her upcoming book, Journey to Generation Clash.
“..Utimately I want you to see this book as a tool to help you see that you’re not obligated to like something just because it’s popular, or because other people like it.”
We were able to dive into some details with Carmela. Give the interview a read and head over to save a copy for yourself! Less than 40 hours remain to pre-order The Road to Generation Clash .
Q: Tell us who you are and a little about yourself...
My name is Carmela Carr. I'm an artist, writer, music lover among a gazillion other things.
Q: What exactly is Generation Clash?
Generation Clash is my music blog. It was founded in 2019. It's a platform to showcase unique artists and show people that digging deeper is worth it and you can find so many amazing artists by going beyond what's in front of you.
Q: What inspired you to write Journey to Generation Clash?
When I was first approached about writing a book, I wasn't sure what I was going to write about. As I started thinking about it, I realized that writing about all the moments in my life that impacted me and made me who I am, and how that tied into me finally using my knowledge to create my own platform.
Q: What do you hope people get out of reading it?
I hope that it shows people that being different is cool. I want people to see that there is so much amazing music out there. I want people to know that it's cool to find yourself and figure out who you are.
Q: Where can people pre-order?
I'm currently running a campaign on Indiegogo to raise $4,000 to cover my publishing costs. Every pre-order adds to the fund and it will allow me to have my book published! By pre-ordering, you get to be a part of my beta reader's community, and you get to read snippets of the book before it's released. I also have a special contest since I know that people are struggling with money due to COVID-19, where you can order the $15 e-book and be entered for a chance to win a signed paperback copy which is worth $40! There's only going to be 10 winners. Pre-orders end on April 17th!
Q: What’s the story behind your Blackberry?
My mom found it when she was out shopping one day, and she brought it home and asked me if I could use it for anything. I figured out how to put music on it, and it became my music player. I found out about the memo feature, and the camera, and I started using it as an offline device. It allowed me to get away from being online every second. It made me realize the importance of online time and offline time.
Q: Who are you currently listening to?
I've been listening to Love/Hate, BRKN LOVE, Mother May I, AKA George, Baton Rouge, Waterparks, and a bunch of other artists. I actually have a quarantine playlist on Spotify that I've been updating everyday with everything I've been listening to!
Q: Anything else you’d like to share?
I'm really proud of this book, and I can't wait for everyone to read it! I hope everyone is staying safe in this crazy time!
